Pakistan become 8th best ODI team in ICC Ranking

Pakistan Jumped Up To 8th ODI Ranking:

Pakistan moved up to number 8 in ICC ODI ranking. Pakistan defeated West Indies 3-0 in ODI series 2016 and moved up a level in ICC one day international ranking. West Indies moved one level down to replace Pakistan. Before start of ODI series Pakistan cricket team were ranked at No. 9 and West Indies were ranked at No. 8. Pakistan turned table around after a white wash of West Indies. Pakistan new ODI ranking is number 8 with 89 rating points while West Indies new ODI ranking is number 9 with rating points of 88. This is first increase in ODI ranking of Pakistan in 2016.

Automatic Qualification For World Cup 2019:

Top 8 teams in ICC ODI ranking by September 2017 will qualify automatically for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It will be very embarrassing for West Indies if they miss out on automatic qualification. Bangladesh is currently ranked higher than Pakistan and West Indies with 95 rating points. Both bottom teams will try their best to minimize the gap and jump up ODI ranking for automatic qualification for next cricket world cup. Bangladesh cricket team is on the rise in ODI matches, they have been unbeatable in last 5 ODI series at home. Pakistan and West Indies will both play hard to get in automatic qualification circle. Pakistan is in top 8 ODI teams now but they have to play consistently to keep improving ODI ranking.

Pak Aim to Be In Top 4 ODI Team:

Pakistan cricket team performance in ODI matches is solely based on runs from openers and top order. Babar Azam is new rising star for Pakistan cricket, he scored 3 consecutive centuries in all 3 matches against West Indies. Babar Azam become the third Pakistani player to score three consecutive centuries and over all 8th in the world. Azhar Ali also scored 100 to become the only Pakistani captain to score three hundreds as a captain. Pakistan target is to be in top 4 teams in ICC ODI ranking rather than just qualifying for next world cup. Pakistan have won all previous six international matches are in a good nick to further justify their place in competitive cricket world. Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur more than just in top 8 teams. Mickey Arhur said, "Everyone knows that we have to be in the top eight come this time next year so we will be doing our utmost to win. We don't want to think that we have won the series so [we can] back off. We have to make sure to tick off our goals; only then we will be comfortable that we can get into the top - not eight, but in the top four." - sourced from espncricinfo. After getting number 1 test ranking; Pakistan cricket team aim is achieve the same feat in both ODI and T20 cricket. After winning 6 consecutive matches one-sided, Pakistan team would try to carry on same performance in future T20 and ODI matches.

Pakistan Moved To No. 8 ODI Rank:

Pakistan cricket team and fans would be happy after Pakistan jumped to No. 8 in ICC ODI rank. If they keep playing well and perform consistently in ODI matches then no doubt Pakistan will be in top 4 best ODI teams in the world. Pakistan will have to work on top order batting which is their main weakness in ODI cricket. Pakistan cricket is pretty solid in bowling department and middle order has come in to rescue many times in the past. If top order fires then Pakistan can win matches which would be the only area of improvement if Pakistan want to be included in best ODI teams.
